Environmental Laboratory Analyst

 

SUMMARY OF POSITION

An Environmental Laboratory Analyst for the Authority will work in the implementation of various environmental regulatory programs in cooperation with private and governmental agencies, and develop a thorough knowledge base of all water, waste, and air regulations affecting the Authority. All lab analysts will maintain a complete working knowledge of sampling and test procedures and up-to-date detailed knowledge of QA/QC standards applicable to the Authority and applied in their daily work.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  1.  Reports to: Environmental Laboratory Manager
  2. Directs: This is a non-supervisory position.
  3. Other: Has outside contact with other Authority employees, the general public, private consultants, and numerous local, state and federal agencies.

EXAMPLES OF WORK -Essential Duties

  • Maintain punctual, regular attendance and work the scheduled hours.
  • Assist the Laboratory Manager in the implementation of the Authority’s water quality monitoring program in association with the Clean Rivers Program (CRP) and the Authority’s Canal Water Quality Monitoring Program
  • Work closely with the Senior Analyst to ensure data integrity for customer distribution and historical record.
  • Perform laboratory testing for conventional laboratory parameters strictly adhering to the Authority’s QA/QC protocols in the field and laboratory.
  • Review water quality data collected in local, state, and federal monitoring activities.
  • Assist the Laboratory Manager in the investigation and containment of hazardous substance spills or other conditions that may jeopardize water quality within the Authority’s jurisdiction.
  • Assist the Laboratory Manager in implementation of the Authority’s Environmental Public Awareness Program.
  • Update and maintain Authority’s GIS/Cityworks database in conjunction with CRP activities.
  • Work closely with other Authority departments in the prevention of stormwater/construction site pollution. Notice of Job Opening – Environmental Laboratory Analyst
  • Make presentations to educate other Authority personnel in the environmental regulations pertinent to their areas of responsibilities. Assist other Authority personnel in compliance with environmental regulations as needed.
  • Stay current with all environmental regulations impacting the Authority, and periodically review and update the Authority’s associated guidance documents.
  • Review, update, and maintain information disseminated to customer base through direct contact and internet web pages.
  • Provide supplemental assistance to all plant departments as required, including departmental supervision relief and on-call assignments.

• Perform such other related duties as may be assigned.  

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:  principles and practices within the fields of biology, chemistry, or botany.  

Skill/Ability to: collect, analyze, and evaluate laboratory results associated with environmental monitoring programs; utilize various scientific equipment proficiently, including computers, GPS, GIS/Cityworks system, and various laboratory instruments, inside and outside of the Authority’s lab; safely launch, operate and land a motor boat; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other; and demonstrate proficiency in both oral and written communication.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Minimum: The position requires a person holding a bachelor’s degree in a science related field; or any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Valid Texas Driver License


Pay Group: A7
Pay Range: $24.24/hour $36.36/hour
Closing Date: July 31, 2025 or until filled, whichever comes first
